According to The Hoya, Georgetown University’s student newspaper, the prestigious school located in Washington, D.C. will officially join the Common Application (Common App) platform starting with the Fall 2026 admissions cycle.

This marks a significant shift, as Georgetown has long been considered an "outlier" in the broader digitalization of U.S. college admissions. While most other four-year universities have adopted the Common App — a widely used platform that allows students to apply to multiple schools with a single application — Georgetown has maintained its own separate application portal for many years.

With this change, only a few major institutions will remain outside the Common App system, including the University of California system and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). A spokesperson for the Common App declined to confirm or deny the news, stating in an email to Inside Higher Ed, “We do not comment on institutions that are not currently members of the Common App. We typically announce new members each August.”
