We are finally going back to our film class.
 
Next Sunday, Spark Prep's Cinema Appreciation Course will start a new lecture called “Violence in Cinema”. We're so excited about this! Hope you will be too.

This course will serve to provide a foundation for interpreting, understanding and appreciating the art of film. We will watch four major works of cinema and touch base with many others during the course of four weeks and talk about a broad range of topics from micro level (mise-en-scène, editing, sound, vs.) to macro level (genre, representation, narrative, vs.) and make use of philosophy, auteur theory and film history abundantly.

VIOLENCE IN CINEMA
 
1st Week: Aestheticization of Violence: Violence that makes you look / Film Screening: Kill Bill: Vol. 1 by Quentin Tarantino
2nd Week: Aestheticization of Violence: Violence that makes you look away / Film Screening: The White Ribbon by Michael Haneke
3rd Week: Masculinity and Sexual Violence / Film Screening: Psycho by Alfred Hitchcock
4th Week: Racial Violence / Film Screening: This is England by Shane Meadows
5th Week: The Violent System: Omnipresence of Violence / Film Screening: Rosetta by Jean-Pierre Dardenne, Luc Dardenne
 
Starting time for the class is April 22nd Sunday @ 10:00. The class will take place at the usual location: Toong Office, 2nd floor, 25T2 Hoang Dao Thuy.
 
***Although we will assume some understanding of a few basic ideas of the medium, only qualification needed is a genuine interest in cinema.
